skim1

skimmer comes pre-assembled and ready to use and just requires an air pump

first attach one end of air pipe to the outlet (3)  with the other end of the pipe going into the waste container – cut to length so there are no bends and pipe just into the top of container.

Fine tuning the skimmer

its all down to trial and error but once correct should need very little attention other than the occasional clean of the body (1) and the outlet (4)

the skimmer is tuned by height adjustment controlled by moving the O ring (5) up or down as required – initial height when setting up is recommended approx 2-3″ from top of the bung to the water level.

close air valve so that little or no air is coming out of the airstone, slowly open the valve until the foam is just below the bung but not exiting the outlet (4)

patience is now the key as skimmer will take a couple of days to “settle in” – its now a case of adjusting the skimmer body height and airflow to get the skimmate consistency required, if skimmer not producing enough skimmate lower body by raising O ring, raising skimmer body will result in a more concentrated skimmate. – a lighter skimmate will require less maintenance as its less likely to block the waste bend and/or pipe

if the efficiency of the airstone deteriorates over time (usually 1-3 months) the replace as required, its life may be extended by scraping the wood surface with a sharp knife.

ALL PARTS ARE AVAILABLE DIRECT FROM REEFLOAT BUT SOME LIKE THE WOOD AIRSTONE CAN BE PURCHASED FROM OTHER AQUATIC RETAILERS
